135 Years: From Glory to Decline to Restoration
In 1890, when Prayagraj was still Allahabad and the British Raj was at its zenith, Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Barnett transformed this Victorian bungalow on Canning Road into the city's first hotel. For six decades, The Barnett's was where viceroys dined, where Tagore sought solitude, where presidents and cinema legends gathered.
Then came the quiet decades. In 1950, tenancy changed hands. The Barnett name remained on the facade, but the soul began to dim. By the 1980s, when the founding family reclaimed their property, the grandeur had faded to memory. For forty years, we operated under different names, serving travelers but knowing we weren't honoring our heritage.
In 2024, we made a decision: restore the soul, reclaim the name, return The Barnett's to its rightful glory. What you'll experience when we reopen isn't preservation—it's resurrection.
Opening June 2026.
